Everyone who eats cereal knows the struggle of it getting soggy. This issue has existed since the beginning of cereal eating time and it is very unfortunate. The only things we do to help combat this issue right now is to make a smaller bowl of cereal and refill it or just eat the cereal as fast as you can and hope for the best. I am 100% sure the opportunity to fix this problem exists.
After speaking with some prototypical customers, I have concluded that this is a pretty common struggle with cereal and 100% of people would appreciate a solution. The thing that surprised me was the variances in level of impact this problem had on people. Although everyone agreed that it is a problem and would like a solution, not everyone was the same level of passionate about it. One person I spoke to said they hate soggy cereal so much that they almost never eat it or when they do they waste more than half of the bowl. While others say that it bothers them but the still continue to eat it most mornings.
After doing this exercise, my original opportunity is most definitely still there. I believe this my new opportunity is at about the same level of accuracy as when I first started. I think entrepreneurs should always listen and adapt their opportunities based on customer feedback because they are the ones that are going to be buying and using the products so that is who they need to be catering to.
Hey Sarah, I definitely agree that you've found an opportunity that has potential, eating soggy cereal is certainly an inconvenience to many people. It is good to hear that through your prototypical customers you were able to back up your claim. I would agree with your point that it's important to adapt ideas based on customer feedback, but I also think it's important to not change your original idea too much, keeping the general idea the same.
ReplyDeleteHey Sarah, I am glad that you think this is a problem because someone else did to and they created the Obol which is a bowl with a divider that goes 3/4 of the way across the bowl so that you can put dry cereal on one side and milk on the other. when you are ready to eat the cereal you just push some of in into the milk side of the bowl an there you go. Don't believe me, here's the link. https://www.obol.co/
ReplyDeleteHello!
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree that this is an issue. I have not eaten cereal for much of my life because of the fact that I hate soggy cereal. I also agree with you when you discuss how much you should listen to customer feedback. I think you need to talk to a lot of potential users before making any finite decisions.
